Theracrew Therapists Choice
All of these workbooks have come out of ideas that happened during Occupational Therapy sessions. A lot of the kids that we work with tend to hide under the table, become incredibly distracted or just refuse to do any pencil and paper activities. After a while you get the message that the activities that you are providing are just not working.
Using the parts of activities that our kids actually liked to do - we looked at ways we could integrate this into pencil and paper activities. The results were amazing; kids who would normally become overloaded started grabbing for the pencil. During some therapy sessions we couldn't print out the worksheets fast enough. Kids that in the past would have been lucky to sit still for one sheet were now happy to do literally more than 10 in one session. Both parents and therapists alike were flabbergasted.
Confidence in predictability has been the key factor for designing these workbooks. These workbooks are great for kids with Autism, Aspergers, Speech Language Delay, Sensory Processing difficulties and Developmental Delay.

Draw-a-Tale Transport Category: Learning to Draw There are just some kids that aren't interested in picking up the pencil. They may not look at what their hands are doing whilst they are drawing, seem to get lost in the planning of following directions to form shapes or get frustrated when their picture doesn't look right. The idea for the Draw-a-Tale adapted stories came in one of those lightbulb moments, where the OT had been trying activity after activity to keep kids motivated. The kids had no problems concentrating on their favourite books and could recite it word for word, but when it came to picking up the pencil they became completely distracted. Knowing what comes next is calming, exciting, and the best part is that it helps kids concentrate for longer! So let's use the idea of a story book to help kids learn pencil skills. |

LIOT Writing Workbook Animals Category: Learning Pencil Control Learning to form letters of the alphabet is hard. Getting the correct starting point and direction of movement can be difficult to learn, especially when you need to focus on how you are holding the pencil or even paying attention to the page in the first place. The unique part of these LIOT workbooks, is that they are made up of only the simplest pre-writing shapes. These are for kids who can draw straight lines, circles and crosses but can't plan or sequence more complex letters together. It allows them to get the experience of 'writing' without the difficulties of it. The simple motor planning steps of these worksheets helps kids concentrate better and is a great starting point for pre-writers. |
