About Us
|
Theracrew was born out of the increasing frustration over lack of resources, lack of funding and lack of time. Ours. Yours. Everyone's. There are more kids these days who struggle to cope in class. As parents and teachers you've got a hard decision to make about how to best meet your kids' social and academic needs. Regular Education. Support classes. Special Schools. Tutoring. Therapy. Which do you choose?
As Occupational Therapists we were tired of watching kids struggle with work that is too hard for them. It just seemed to be common sense to provide kids who have special needs with schoolwork adapted specifically to the way they learn. Time and time again we've seen what the kids can achieve when work is presented in a way that matches their learning style.
Occupational Therapists design all Theracrew products. That means they sit at the computer and decide where the Boardmaker Picture Communication Symbols need to go. The ideas behind the activities and worksheets have all originated from working with particular kids, where a therapist has had to create something unique, because it simply doesn't exist anywhere else.
Theracrew exists because of the kids and everything they can achieve.
Meet our Team: Danielle Lord Martin Hartcher
Danielle founded Theracrew in 2007 and is responsible for the design of the learning tools and content for
Robin Hawkes (teacher of students with autism spectrum disorder) One of the best things about Theacrew resources is the time I saved in creating appropriate, useful and fun activities for my students with Autism Spectrum Disorder! I love how the activities are structured to provide a very clear beginning and end. My students have responded with enthusiasm to the fine motor worksheets and the drawing worksheets have given a real boost of confidence to students who previously said "I can't do that!"
“My son Matthew started this year at one of Autism Spectrum Australia's satellite classes and gets homework to do each night. I include Theracrew worksheets with his homework as he really loves using them. They’re so colourful, visual and fun to do. “Matthew says to me: ‘Mummy I want more of this one’ and points to the Matching Money & Money Patterns. One day a week he gets to go to the school canteen and buy something, so this is just the perfect way to help him visually learn about money and counting. I am so thrilled we purchased these - they really are fabulous.” -
“Both the kids and parent helpers are loving the Theracrew fine motor Workbooks – we’ve even incorporated some of them into our homework program.”
“I had to make two copies so his sister didn’t miss out!”
Whilst Theracrew originated in Australia, it is currently being used around the world. You can find Theracrew in the classrooms and therapy clinics in the following countries:
"My kids loved the play dough pages... I took them into one of the preschool class rooms this week and all the 4 year olds had such a great time. It was surprising to me that even the typically developing peers had difficulty rolling and pinching." Norma Eigles (Occupational Therapist, USA)
Laura da Macedônia (Occupational Therapist, Brazil)
A great deal of science has gone into the design of our entire website and products. The latest research on instructional and intervention strategies has been incorporated, as well as strategies to assist with maintaining children's confidence and motivation. For more details please view our practice paper here.
Between 2007-2010 theracrew provided workbooks that were downloaded from our website and stored on your computer. Based on customer feedback we now offer a more flexible learning system where all of our workbooks are stored online and can be accessed through an annual subscription. There is no more downloading required - you can print directly from our website and will now be able to access the workbooks from any computer. Plus with our new website you can access interactive games and instructional videos based on our workbooks. Your previously purchased workbooks will continue to work as originally intended. If you need to alter which computer your workbooks are stored or would like to upgrade your previous purchase please email us at contact@theracrew.com
If you are interested in knowing more or are a fan of Theracrew join our online TC Community on Facebook. It’s a great place to interact, share and network with the Theracrew Team and with other Theracrew users.
Theracrew holds free training sessions in Sydney, Australia where you can meet Danielle Lord (Occupational Therapist) who is head of our Design Team. These are open to those using Theracrew and those people interested in using Theracrew. Please contact us to register your interest.
